On Monday I was on the phone with a colleague of mine who had received an early copy of the Best American Travel Writing 2013, edited by Elizabeth Gilbert, out this week. She turned to the back of the book, listing Notable Travel Writing of 2012, and told me the good news: a story of mine, “Catching the Gist”, published on World Hum, was selected for inclusion. This list of notable stories features many writers I admire from Frank Bures to Lisa Abend to Lawrence Osborne. I’m thrilled to be included. Get your copy here. Advertisements
This week Bon Appetit published my story “How to Take Your Oyster Slurping to the Next Level“. It includes advice from experts — both chefs and oyster farmers — on how to become a more sophisticated oyster eater. In the process, I gathered some fabulous photos that bring the process of how an oyster arrives at your plate into focus.
The pristine white tub was calling me: I couldn’t resist an end of the day soak. Tossing aside a fluffy robe, I sank into steaming water, a whimsical rubber ducky already lost in a deep sea of suds. A big soaking tub. Two incredible restaurants. Three fireplaces. This weekend getaway to Glenmere Mansion in the Lower Hudson Valley had all the right ingredients for a memorable mother-daughter gourmet getaway. Read my coverage for Luxury Travel Magazine here and my “Writer in the Kitchen” interview with the chef here.
